I do not feel well today at  all! I have not had a decent bm in over a week . I am trying not to become dependent on laxatives so I kind of let it ride for a minute, Well today it all seems to want to come at the same time, complete with cramps and all.   this is not the first time, I am about 9 weeks out and I go from being totally con*****pted to diar****a of the worst kind  where is the happy medium?
Before surgery I took benefiber for regularity , i hope to be able to go back to it soon ....this is maddening! any suggestions?

It will take a little time to get back to normal.  I also tried to stay away from laxatives so I wouldn't get dependent.

Try drinking watered down prune juice, or any other natural food or drink that will get you to going. (like grapes, raisins, apple juice)

As for the diarrhea, try using half doses of any meds you may use or warm flour water works for me....believe it or not.

You will probably have to try different combinations of stuff before you can get regulated.  It's tricky, but be patient.

Hope this helps.

There is a tea that is all natural called smooth groove and can be found at herb stores.  It worked for me when I was constipated and until I could eat more things with fiber in it.  Hope this helps.

1. Call your surgeon.
2. Up your water intake and drink some Gatorade for your diarrhea. Try the BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, toast) diet until your bowels are settled.
3. Stay away from milk.

What's your diet looking like? Anything new?

Not anything new, mostly trying to get my protien and water in, I do better with the water than the protien, but I try to hit the numbers everyday ......leaves little room for fiber.

Benefiber and dulcolax does it for me.  When things are really bad diet gingerale and correctol.  I posted here and on other boards.  Got a lot of suggestions.  Then it was trial and error until I found what works most of the time.  Nothing actually makes me 'normal' again.  Its still better than it was early post op but I really miss trure regular.
